MY DAY IS ANYTHING BUT FASHIONABLE: Change is gone Come?

In America we have progressed because we faught for the progression. In America we have learned that when we come together in great numbers and lift our voice that change is bound to happen. We have faught for everything from civil rights, gay and lesbian rights all the way to our right to have no smoking in bars. We have not only faught for the rights of human being but we have faught to protect the animals and to protect the enviorment. We have been fighting so hard that we overlooked something equally as important as our freedom of speech. And that is the right to have all forms of beauty represented on the televsion, in the movies, in the magazines and on the internet. We have allowed all media outlets to contradict everything that we have faught for. And that is equality and the right to be from a different culture and still valued. So until every race, size, color and shape are represented we will never internally be free. Because we still have these images telling us despite what we think beauty ownly appears if one is thin or white or fair skin or what ever else impossible projections we have been forced to look at. Although its 2010 in the world of hollywood it is still the mind set of the 1900's. Which means anything that is not white or closely resembles white is unacceptable. And i guess the question that crosses my mind is how much real talented has been overlooked because they dont look the part? So in this era that prides itself on change i say its time to lift our voice and say enough is enough. I am tired of look at the same stick figure with boobs and blonde hair on the televison screen. Show me a woman and a man who even through there flaws are still beautiful. But this is all just my opinion that was fueled by an episode on Tyra....But she is right is time for a change!

I LOVE WHAT I CANT AFFORD: Vivenine Westwood Red Label collection!

When i saw this collection i thought to myself....Man!....this lady really wants to be my BFF. I mean why else would she make a collection that tailor made for me and my personal style? and how is it possible that i love every single piece on that runway? I mean clearly she has been doing her research on ShaylaBarbie by reading my blog, following me on twitter and looking at my facebook profile. Because clearly this collection was everything i want to be if i could afford to be it. So with all this being said Vivenine is totally my new Bestie.

THE WOMAN I LOVE THE MOST (in a non-lesbian (not that there is anything wrong with lesbians) type of way)

Annie-Cakes (thats what i call her in my mind during our imaginary convo's) aka Anna Wintour aka freaking fabulous. After looking  at approximately five hundred and four pictures of this lady on Style.com. And looking at nine different interviews on Youtube.com and then reading her biography on Wikipedia.com i realized that i am absolutely mesmerized by this woman who is feared but greatly respectly and most importantly always glam-tastic. The one thing i love the most about this woman outside of her wardrobe and wardrobe allowance is her composure and the way she presents herself. If i were the editor in chief at Vogue (which is the bible of fashion) i would probably having personally committed myself in a mental institution. But this petite, frail looking woman is without emotion and very decisive when it comes to business. And because of her i have something to read while im suppose to be learning in class. So i thank my little Annie-cakes for the distraction at the time in which i should reeeaally be listening.

LOVE CAN LEARN FROM FASHION

With Valentine's Day slowly approaching I cant seem to wonder about anything else but the mysteries of love. And how one can make a relationship happen forever and ever with despite all the ups and downs still keeping the flame alive. And then it hit me that love can most certainly use some advice from fashion. In the world of fashion the most important thing is to keep things fresh and new. And to always have people guessing about whats next and intrigued about whats current. And that is the element in which relationship lacks the most when dealing with love. Rather than keeping things new and exciting people opt for routine and being content. If the fashion was like most people's relationships Couture would not exist and the only thing walking down runways would be women in mom jeans and t-shirt (ahhhhhhhhhhh!!! im sorry...the thought of mom jeans scares me). In fashion they are constantly searching for new muses to inspire them and to provoke them to think outside of the box. Once a designer and its team begin a new collection they go into it whole heartidly because they know that one false move can lead to being detested by the fashion world. The lesson love must learn from this is to constantly be inspired by your love and although the idea of always pleasing someone can be nearly impossible. It should always be a thought in your brain to love a person whole heartidly and to do nothing less then your best because the idea of the one you love detesting you should send your heart into a panic. So to me Valentines Day is to love what Fashion Week is to fashion. Its the day in which you display and verbalize an extra unordinary amount of love and devotion. And it is a reminder that love is very relevant and very necessary. But unlike love and relationships, Fashion doesnt just end with Fashion week its actually the beginning and all the fresh garments on the runway appear in magazines, talk shows, blogs, red carpets and closets. And its very appearance is a reminder of what begin right in the heart of the designer. Obviously we dont have the same outlets to remind us what we have but thats because you dont need it. The constant reminder you have was placed right in the center of your heart(awwww...now thats special). So the moral of this story is this story is that pick up a Vogue magazine, stop fighting and learn that when love is involved to use all your heart.

OXYMORON

I call myself an oymoron because i am absolutely the richest-poorest woman in the world of fashion. I have a pair of fendi flats that i love to pair with my favorite two dollar thrift store dress. I own shoes  that cost the same amount as my rent. I have a purse that is probably worth more than my 2002 Ford Focus. I desperately need prescribed glasses but instead i opt for a brand new pair of Dior sunglasses. I have a pair of  satin Louboutin pumps that look like they belong on a red carpet and i wear them to the grocery store. I saved up every penny i head for a pair of Jimmy Choo's that were like five seasons old and were marked down 60%.  In my closet you will most definitly find a pair of Joe's jeans or William Rast just chilling next to a pair of LEI that i may have found at wal-mart. I guess what i am trying to say is that although i may have a taste for the finer things in life its my lack of financial resources that turns me into a oxymoron. And by oxymoron i think i really mean undefinable. When you can find fashion in the thrift store the same way you can find it on Rodeo Drive thats how you know your love affair with fashion is the real deal. Or maybe thats just my thoughts because i am the poorest-richest fashionista around...
